Welcome to Friends Supporting Friends
The main objective of "Friends Supporting Friends" is to enable friends to help and support a friend or family member facing a life threatening disease and high treatment costs outside the UK.
The charity was set up in response to Nem Bronimann’s case when she was diagnosed with metastasised breast cancer on 31 December 2004. She was given only months to live without effective, tailored treatment available on the NHS.
Through her family’s endeavour she began treatment at a specialist cancer clinic in Germany, which achieved a great deal of success in reducing the numerous cancers. She began to feel better and her quality of life improved. However, this proved too costly to sustain, so she turned to ‘Friends Supporting Friends’ for help.
Nem’s friends and family were able to fund raise to help with the cost of her treatment under the terms of the charity, which made a huge difference to her family. Events, fun runs, coffee mornings and parties were held, which gave us all a great deal of pleasure at the same time as funding many months of treatment.
Sadly, Nem was unable to beat the cancer and finally gave in on 5th January 2007.
One of Nem’s wishes was to see that other people in terminal ill health, where the NHS cannot provide the treatment, would also be able to benefit from an organisation such as ‘Friends Supporting Friends’. This charity is open to anyone who has a need for medical treatment overseas and is willing to take on the challenge with their friends of raising funds to provide the treatment.
